Inspired by the old township “Spaza Shop”, My Parents Spaza Shop celebrates the history and heritage of those once impactful micro-convenience shops in rural and township communities in the 50s and 80s. We are an e-commerce platform that aims to provide economic access, empowerment, and opportunity to women and youth. At the center of all of this is our mission to o er our customers convenience and quality while building an inclusive economic system.
Our Founder
Sam Mokoena (The Cushion Man) is an Ubuntu architect, futurist, and historian with a deep passion for free, liberated, newly rediscovered and re-established townships by the people, hungry for rural SA majority self economic freedom re-discovery, and dedicated towards freed and liberated women and youth economy globally.
Born and raised in the Free State, QwaQwa homeland, Thibella Village under the foot of Drakensburg Mountain, Mont-Aux-Sources. He is an adopted descendant of the great Chief Mohlomi Mokoena, through his grandparents, who, in his own words, “I took my deep-rooted philosophy, innovation, and futuristic, caring, and inclusive leadership from both my adopted grandparents. I hate to see human su ering, hence I always started companies that have to do with impact on socio-economies.”
